Pride Month 2023

Pride Month, celebrated in June, is an annual observance dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning) community. It is a time for recognizing and honoring the history, achievements, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as advocating for their rights and promoting equality.

The origins of Pride Month can be traced back to the Stonewall Riots, which occurred in June 1969 in New York City. The riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the LGBTQIA+ community in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village. The event marked a significant turning point in the LGBTQIA+ rights movement and is considered a catalyst for the modern fight for equality.

Since then, Pride Month has grown into a global movement with various events, parades, festivals, and activities organized by LGBTQIA+ communities and allies worldwide. These celebrations provide opportunities for LGBTQIA+ individuals to come together, express their identities, raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ issues, and foster a sense of belonging and acceptance.

Pride Month serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights, including equal rights, protections against discrimination, and social acceptance. It also recognizes the diversity within the LGBTQIA+ community and highlights the importance of inclusivity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Here at SARAH Inc., we take pride in having a welcoming and inclusive community for all individuals.
