As 2018 comes to a close there is much to reflect on. In my first full year in this position, I learned that no Executive Director will be successful without the backing of a strong team. With the support and trust of the Board of Directors, the Leadership Team, our valued staff, and all of the individuals and the families we serve, we comprised a strong team. This team will enable us to continually grow here at SARAH Inc. and continue to do great work in our communities.

Krystian Sawicki utilizes our Individualized Services here at SARAH Inc. Recently, Krystian decided that he wanted to better use the programs SARAH Inc. offers and opted into the Individualized program. Krystian advocated that he wanted to be more active in the community and take part in an enriching and productive day. He enjoys volunteering and helping others, and every Tuesday he travels out to Caring Cuisine in New Haven, CT to volunteer his services. Krystian and his staff pick up meals and deliver them to individuals throughout the city.

Throughout the previous year, Erin started to express her strong desire to spend her time working with animals. Through an impressive amount of self-advocacy, her message was heard. The first challenge Erin faced was that working with animals is not traditionally considered a “group” activity. Other individuals might not want to work or constantly be around animals. Secondly, she would need to work within a budget to make it work for her individually.

Henry Leads Proactive, Person-Centric SARAH, Inc.

Proactive and person-centric. Those are two words you’ll hear often from SARAH, Inc.’s new executive director, Denise Henry.Denise began her new role on Nov. 1, 2017, and already is advancing the organization’s goal of providing services, support, and advocacy to enrich the lives of people with differing abilities. The organization also supports the families of those people, and the communities in which they live.SARAH, Inc., grew out of the efforts of three Guilford families who banded together back in 1957. The Reinhardsen, Spencer, and McNeil families founded SARAH to give their children with intellectual and other disabilities—and others’ children—important resources and advocacy that didn’t exist for them at that time. Today, the SARAH family of agencies includes SARAH Foundation, SARAH Tuxis, SARAH Seneca, and SARAH, Inc.
